The Secretary of State serves as Nebraska’s chief election officer. Working with election officials in the state’s 93 counties, the Elections Division oversees election law, the conduct of elections in the state, election tabulation equipment and the state voter registration system. The division accepts candidate filings and compiles results for statewide, legislative, judicial retention and certain district elections. Next Statewide Election5/14/2024 Presidential Statewide Primary Election Dates & Deadlines03/01/2024 - At 5 PM - Non-incumbent (new filers) filing deadline for an office to appear on the primary election ballot. 03/11/2024 - At 5 PM - last day for a presidential candidate to file an affidavit with the Secretary of State to remove his or her name from the ballot and withdraw as a presidential candidate. 03/14/2024 - At 5 PM - last day for partisan presidential candidates of recognized parties to file for the primary election by filing with the Secretary of State petitions signed by not less than 100 voters registered with the appropriate political party from each congressional district of the state. 03/22/2024 - Last day for Secretary of State to certify candidates, offices and issues to be placed on the statewide ballot. 03/29/2024 - Deadline to have early voting ballots ready and sent to UOCAVA voters with requests on file. |
