Youth Election Service

The Youth Election Service (YES) encourages Nebraska youth ages 14 to 18 to participate as election workers for statewide primary and general elections.

YES is sponsored by Secretary of State, John Gale Sponsored by Secretary of State John Gale and the Nebraska Bankers Association, YES is designed to increase interest and involvement in the election system among young people.

“YES allows young people to serve our democracy, learn about the election system and provide valuable community service,” Gale said.

YES was started in 2004 to meet two important objectives: increase the size of a shrinking pool of election workers and increase the interest of young people in voting.

Within two weeks following the general election, county election officials submit the names of students who worked a minimum of four hours at either the primary or general election. Youth workers names are divided into five regional districts based on their county of residence. Through random drawings, 20 participants will each be awarded a $50 gift card purchased by the Nebraska Bankers Association.

In addition, all YES participants receive a certificate of recognition from Gale.
